Getting Ready for the Summer Homeschool Style

Summer is almost here and since we live at the beach I thought it would be good to start learning about all the wonderful things around us. Maybe you are taking a trip to the beach this summer, or want to bring the beach inside for the kids to enjoy. Here are a few ways you can.

Swimming with the Seahorses

Aren't Seahorse so cool? I mean they have to be one of the cutest fish in the sea. Well at least that's what we think. It's kind of crazy to know that in our ocean (the Atlantic)where the kids swim, jump the waves, and boogy board there are thousands of tiny and not so tiny seahorses swimming around with their fry(baby seahorses). We have spent the month of May exploring all kinds of wonderful things, Seahorses is one of them. We started with reading Mr. Seahorse by Eric Carle. He writes some of my all time favorite children's books.

We really enjoyed exploring the book,  we found hidden fish, counted babies, and talked about the differences of how different types of sea life carry their babies differently. Did you know that it is the daddy seahorses that carry the babies in their pouch? Also when a seahorse is born it is only 1/2 a centimeter long. That's tiny. The average size of an adult Seahorse is 4-6 inches and it hits adult stage of life at 8 months old.

Sent

I just finished reading the inspiring book Sent by Hilary Alan. This was a perfect book for me at this time of my life. You see, I have spent the past several years being very curious about Ministering to other families. I have always dreamed about traveling to other countries and helping to build schools, teach and or raise children. I just didn't believe it was possible with little children. After reading the Alan's story and how they gave up what they thought everything was to actually gain so much more than they ever had, was amazing.
This is the perfect book for a Christian family to read. It speaks to your heart, As a mom I could feel the pain and uncertainty that they felt when they were deciding to pull their children away from all that they knew to answer God's calling. Sent gives you a real sense of what it was like to be in another country where everyone speaks a different language and has different beliefs. By the end of this book you will feel like you know this family, and you will truly understand what it is like to be a missionary.

I received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions written here are completely my own. (This post does contain Affiliate links)

Road Trip USA part 1

This year the boys have really enjoyed learning geography. In fact It's definitely one of their favorite things to do each week. We are working through Road Trip USA for our curriculum, and I highly recommend it. The boys love learning about each state's animals and adding them to our chart. They also have explored all the famous people and landmarks. As an added bonus each week we make a food that goes with the state we are working on. Here are a few of our highlights this year.
The Delaware Memorial Bridge made out of Duplo blocks and string.

Tot time Preschool Letter R

R was such a fun week. We started the week off making rainbow rice for sensory play. I was even more excited when I realized I perfected my easy rice recipe. Little B loved his R sensory play.
