The magic tree house series is definitely a favorite at our house. Pair it with the resource books and you are set for a unit study. I realize I didn't pick just one, that's because we've read so many and have truly enjoyed them all.
Mr. Poppers Penguins, a true classic. We added in Confessions of a homeschooler literature lapbook and had a ball. After finishing the book we had a movie day. Gotta love homeschooling.
The Boxcar Children
Frindle is just a fun read by a great Author (Andrew Clements). The book is about a young boy in 4-5th grade that decides to make a word up to annoy his teacher. The thing is the word becomes so popular it truly changes the boys, the schools, and the teachers life. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to give away to much. The kids really got a kick out of this book, I highly recommend it.
You can never go wrong with Roald Dahl, his stories bring you into his world and make you feel like you are there. He captures your imagination and keeps the kids talking about the characters far after you have finished the book.
My Father's Dragon takes you on an adventure with a young boy (Elmer Elevator) traveling to a far off land to save a baby dragon. My boys loved looking at the maps that were included while charting Elmer's adventure. He runs into all kinds of ferocious animals and out smarts them all.
Maps and Mapping was a fun book and very informative. We used this book during the time we were reading My Father's Dragon. It taught us all about the different types of maps in the world and the Cartographer that makes them.
Lentil, Who doesn't love a book about an awkward boy that becomes the town hero? We love stories like these, and this book had us breaking out our harmonica's and giving it a try.
Do you want to help your kids learn the presidents while also learning amazing and sometimes funny facts about them. Like who needed a special bathtub in the white house because he was so big. What some of their hobbies were and what college you might want to choose. So you want to be president is definitely a keeper.
This year we have done an extensive nature study. So I felt one of the best naturalists to learn about would be John James Audubon. Actually, my Blazey reminds me a lot of Audubon in his earlier years. We read several Audubon books during the year, however this one really stood out. The pictures are as delightful as the story.
These were Blakey and Blazey's favorite books from this past school year. The age range for this book list would be 5-9 years old. I hope you have the chance to enjoy some of these with your children.

This is a great list! Our boys have read all the Magic Tree House and Roald Dahl books we could get our hands on. The Boxcar Children books look great. Will try and find them at the library next time we go.
