Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Alphabet Play

It's Spring time here and guess what that means? Rain, Rain and more Rain. At least that is what it was feeling like this past week. So I decided to bring a little sunshine into our house, and of course make it a fun learning day. One of our favorite books right now is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. So while the kids were asleep I set up a sensory and alphabet experience for the whole family to enjoy.
Let's go over the quick and easy list of what you need. (Affiliate links provided for convenience)
The book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (of course), a container for sensory play (this is a $7 container from Walmart), play sand, a coconut, a few sand toys, a palm tree and letters.
I purchased the sand toys, palm tree, and letters from the dollar store.
I really wanted to cheer the house up from the gloominess, so I went all out. I brought in beach chairs, laid out a huge beach blanket, hung a cute (dollar store) Tiki sign up, all under our fabulous Elves & Angels Playstands . I didn't stop there... We got into our bathing suits for the day. It was awesome!
I love incorporating great books into our play, the kids seem to really enjoy the fun and the learning.
They were singing the alphabet song, talking about the letters and sounds. The rain didn't stop us.
We must have read the book at least 10 times that day. It is so nice to watch the children play, and the fact that they are learning so many great lessons too, makes mommy happy.

Are you incorporating sensory learning into your day? I'd love to hear about it, and if you would like other sensory play ideas follow my Sensory Board on Pinterest . You will find hundreds of great ideas. .

Letter of the Week Preschool D

I have been having fun these days with Little B. This is such an exciting stage in life with so much to do and learn. Of course I seem to feel that way about every stage. Teaching the alphabet is so important and of course a vital part in the beginning stages for reading, writing, and the path to their success in learning.

I waited patiently for Little B to show signs of interest in the alphabet and it has happened. He is so  excited now to learn the alphabet, writing, and first steps to reading. Yay!!! I am  working with him on a Letter of the week curriculum. I say curriculum but really it's so much more than that. I'm using mostly 1+1+1=1 and letter of the week for fabulous printables. I add great books, puzzles, sensory play and more to create a well rounded learning experience.
This week little B was working on the letter D. Here is my set-up for his trays and table. Some of the trays I put out for this week are his Dog pattern board, a tray of dinosaurs, a basket of dolls with clothes (perfect for practical life), a tray with dice (perfect for math and counting practice), and a sand tray for letter practice.
I usually change the tray and table set-up 2-3 times a week. Here are a few pics of little B's tot time this week.

V is for Volcano

This past week we have been having a lot of fun exploring Volcano's. In fact we learned a lot more this week than just the letter V. Let's just say Science was a top priority for these boys.
Here Little B is putting together his own V book.

I think he did a great job writing all of his V words. This Volcano learning pack was free from Me and Marie.

Then we set out to experiment. This is an activity pulled from one of my favorite places, Pinterest

Watch how Lava works.

They listened to Lava bubbling up.
I love happy faces and fun times while learning.
Click here to get the instructions to make your own lava experiment.
Next up, it wouldn't be a Natural beach living learning week with out actually making a volcano. I used Black rocks from the Dollar Store, a Volcano tray like this one from Amazon (I actually like the one from Amazon better than ours). I also surprised the boys with Primary Science Sets . I added in some baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring, we were set.

The Learning Resources Science Set was totally worth getting. I'm so excited to have them(I purchased 2) this year to go along with our homeschooling.

I had happy boys this week.
Who would have thought starting off with the Letter of the week preschool would lead to all of this greatness?

If you are looking for other great Science activities for kids click here, ideas on Schooling the little's click here. If you are interested in Alphabet printables my favorite place to get them is 1+1+1=1.
I hope you have a great week of learning and come back for a visit soon.
